I, Witness Niki Mackay. Blog tour interview.

Today I am getting to know Niki Mackay as part of the “I, Witness” blog tour.

Tell us a little about your current novel, what readers can expect from it…

‘I plead guilty, but the truth is, I didn’t do it’
‘I, Witness’ starts with Kate Reynolds trying to prove her innocence after serving time for manslaughter. It’s told from the point of view of four women, and each woman has a different perspective on the case. All of their stories also explore experiences of motherhood, family, and freedom, which are the main themes in the book.
It’s the first in a series featuring PI Madison Attallee, she’s pretty bolshie, messed up and fiercely intelligent. When we meet her she’s lost custody of her daughter, been sacked from the police force and is attempting to set up a PI agency.
‘I, Witness’ is a fast-paced thriller with attitude.

Academic or creative at school?

Creative and easily distracted. I went to the BRIT school when I was fourteen.

First job you *really* wanted to do?

Writing! Honestly, though I chased acting and dance for a while.

Do you remember the moment you first wanted to write?

I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t writing something. I started out writing bonus chapters for Sweet Valley Twins, then High, then Point Horror.

Who are your real life heroes?

Madonna, Tank Girl (I know she’s not real), Courtney Love, Lynda La Plante, Martina Cole, Minette Walters, my husband, my step-sister, my mum, dad, friends. I could go on with this… I find lots of people inspiring.

Funniest or most embarrassing situation you’ve found yourself in?

Ha! Most situations which require maturity, I revert back to feral child in any sort of formal setting. I’m also pretty emosh and can be prone to tears, happy or sad which can be awks. I cried during Toy story at the cinema my poor son was pretty mortified.

DIY expert or phone a friend?

Phone a friend.

Sun worshipper or night owl?

Sun worshipper, and I go to bed embarrassingly early.

A book that had you in tears.

The Hate U Give.

A book that made you laugh out loud.

Adrian Mole aged 13 3/4

One piece of life advice you give everyone.

Don’t be an arsehole, try and do the next right thing, if you don’t know something ask, and if you get something wrong say sorry. That’s more than one, but essentially summed up by the first 😉

Thanks Nikki!

About the Book.

They say I’m a murderer.

Six years ago, Kate Reynolds was found holding the body of her best friend; covered in blood, and clutching the knife that killed her.

I plead guilty.

Kate has been in prison ever since, but now her sentence is up. She is being released.

But the truth is, I didn’t do it.

There’s only one person who can help: Private Investigator Madison Attalee, the first officer on the scene all those years ago.

But there’s someone out there who doesn’t want Kate digging up the past. Someone who is willing to keep the truth buried at any cost.
