EVERY STORY OPENS A DOOR

In a sprawling mansion filled with peculiar treasures, January Scaller is a curiosity herself. As the ward of the wealthy Mr. Locke, she feels little different from the artifacts that decorate the halls: carefully maintained, largely ignored and utterly out of place.

But her quiet existence is shattered when she stumbles across a strange book. A book that carries the scent of other worlds and tells a tale of secret doors, of love, adventure and danger. Each page reveals more impossible truths about the world, and January discovers a story increasingly entwined with her own.

This novel was pure magic from the moment I opened it until the moment I reluctantly closed it – a hugely immersive and utterly beautiful work of fiction, an ode to the power of stories, with a very impressive girl called January right at the centre of it.

I’m loathe to give too much away lest I spoil it for the next reader, but you will never walk through a door again without January sneaking into your mind..

There is adventure to be had here if you dare, enter a world where all things are possible and all sorts of power is at play. Some simply seek it others seek to destroy it but in the end maybe, just maybe true love will conquer all.

I fell into this book almost literally, my nose practically touching the page, so eager was I to discover what happens next then what happens after that. The poetic prose just sucks you into its vortex, the tale itself is utterly gripping and hugely intelligent, it’s a literary page turner of the highest order .

I adored it with a fiery vengeance. The most imaginative and compelling book I’ve read this year.

Highly HIGHLY recommended.
