Pick of the week: Three D A Mishani.

Three tells the stories of three women: Orna, a divorced single-mother looking for a new relationship; Emilia, a Latvian immigrant on a spiritual search; and Ella, married and mother of three, returning to University to write her thesis. All of them will meet the same man. His name is Gil. He won’t tell them the whole truth about himself – but they don’t tell him everything either.Tense, twisted and surprising, Three is a daring new form of psychological thriller. It is a declaration of war against the normalisation of death and violence. Slowly but surely, you see the danger each woman walks into. What you won’t see is the trap being laid – until it snaps shut.

Three is probably the most quietly disturbing novel I’ve read in a while..intricate in its underlying affect on the reader, clever in the way the story creeps up on you, it is a book that feels perfectly calmly compelling…until…

The innocuous yet utterly fascinating look into the day to day lives of three very different women, slowly but surely turns into something more menacing, something more dangerous, as all of them over different times come to the attention of the same man.

D A Mishani is a purely beautiful writer, creating a reality that you fall into…it is a literary trap because the reader is distracted, engaged with these women and those around them, with what is happening to them, then suddenly..well you’ll have to read it yourself to find out.

I loved this..the creativity of the writing drew me in and the ending was deliciously satisfying with a lasting sense of melancholy and regret.

Excellent. Highly Recommended.

  1. Hi Liz

I am a writer from the UK – I write character focused novels about my home town – ‘Whenever’ which won a debut novel prize in 2017 and ‘Random Three’, just published. Would you be interested in doing a review? yours Sarah
