The Lost Man is a bit of a departure for Jane Harper , more family drama than mystery, a haunting, melancholy tale of a lost brother and what may have lead him to just walk away from safety.
The Lost Man of the title really could refer to any one of the three brothers you’ll meet within the pages and Jane Harper captures the sense of space in the outback, where danger is simply a part of living, perfectly.
It is a slow burner that sucks you immediately into it’s vortex, building a picture of one family, in a community where the nearest help is too far away, where self sufficiency saves lives but where human nature is as it always is.
The writing is so so beautiful I inhaled every word, utterly gripped throughout in a way that words can’t describe. The character building creates the heart and soul and the themes of guilt, loss and redemption are all thought provokingly layered into an absolutely addictive plot.
A standalone novel that embeds this author onto my list of the great writers. Exemplary.

Ahh, I thought this was a continuation of the Aaron Falk series. It’s good to know it’s a standalone.
